We have a high standard for weather and/or sea conditions during our shark trips.
If whale watching would be bad, shark watching would be no better; however, many guests want to go anyway. The area we see sharks may still be clear with protection from the island; that protected area may be a little larger or smaller based on ocean conditions.
The Farallon Islands are worth a visit even in the roughest of weather; in fact, we are open for special photography workshops when the weather is right, with large waves from the open ocean - just like those associated with the Mavericks surfing competitions on the San Mateo coast.
Waves can wash over the Great Arch, a giant natural bridge rising eight or ten stories above the water. It would make an interesting opportunity for fine art photography.
